Treasures
of Upton Garden Tour
The
Blackstone Valley Gardeners is pleased to be sponsoring the first garden
tour in the town of Upton on June 21st, 2008, rain or shine.
The "Treasures of Upton" tour will feature a self-guided tour
of eight beautiful gardens around town from 9:00 A.M. until 3:00
P.M. Refreshments will be provided at some of the gardens and many
fabulous plants will be available for sale at one of the stops for very
reasonable prices. The gardens are all very diverse and include a lovely
organic herb garden, a formal boxwood parterre, gardens with waterfalls
and ponds, shade and woodland gardens, and specimen gardens. The common
denominator is that all these gardens are tended with care by people
who love to garden and gardeners by nature love to share their gardens
with others.
This
Blackstone Valley regional garden club was founded in 1995 and consists
of about 80 members from Upton and the surrounding towns in the Blackstone
Valley. The mission of the club includes the following: the advancement
of horticulture, the development of home gardens, civic beautification
and the conservation of our natural environment. This year the club
donated passes to the Tower Hill Botanical Garden to the Upton, Uxbridge,
and Northbridge libraries so that patrons can visit the gardens free
of charge. There is also a beautiful memorial garden that was planted
and is maintained by members at the Tri-River Medical Center in Uxbridge.
Upton members also recently planted the daffodils and cleaned up the
areas around the "Welcome to Upton" signs.
Tickets
for the tour are $15. Proceeds from the sale will help finance speakers
for the club and civic projects throughout the year. Anyone who would
like to purchase a ticket can send a check made out to Blackstone Valley
Gardeners to Pat Stellato, 56 West River St., Upton, MA 01568. Tickets
and maps will be sent out and brochures will be available the day of
the tour. For more info, please call 508-624-2387.
